Fatal plane crash in West Nashville, US

Victims are yet to be named after a single-engine airplane from Kentucky collided near the highway on Monday night.

Tragic Incident

A small single-engine airplane crashed on the side of Interstate 40 in West Nashville, Tennessee, on Monday evening, resulting in the loss of five lives. 

The crash occurred at 7:44 PM local time between the Nashville West Shopping Center and the interstate highway, according to updates from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

Details of the Crash

Metro Nashville police spokesperson Don Aaron revealed in a press conference that the pilot of the plane had requested an emergency landing at John C Tune airport in Nashville due to engine problems. However, the aircraft crashed three miles south of the airport. 

Witnesses reported seeing the plane in distress before it hit the ground, indicating significant difficulties in maintaining control.

Origin of the Flight

The ill-fated flight originated in Kentucky, departing from Mount Sterling at approximately 7:19 PM local time.

Emergency Response

The Nashville Fire Department swiftly responded to the crash, encountering heavy fire upon arrival. Despite the intense flames, firefighters were able to extinguish the fire while preserving evidence for the subsequent investigation.

Impact and Closure

Fortunately, no vehicles or buildings were struck by the plane, which exploded upon impact. However, the eastbound lane of Interstate 40 remained closed through Tuesday morning as authorities worked to clear the scene.

Pending Identification

The identities of the victims and the owner of the plane have yet to be disclosed, pending further investigation and notification of their next of kin.
