American Airlines to Launch Direct Service from JFK to Tokyo Haneda

American Airlines is set to make aviation history as the first U.S. carrier to offer direct flights from New York to Tokyo, with the launch of service to Haneda from JFK on June 28.

This milestone initiative aims to enhance connectivity between the United States and Japan, providing travelers with more options for seamless transpacific journeys.

Expanding Connectivity:

Brian Znotins, American Airlines Senior Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning expressed excitement about the new service, emphasizing its role in complementing existing flights operated by the airline’s joint business partner, Japan Airlines.

By introducing direct flights from JFK to Haneda, American Airlines aims to streamline travel between the U.S. and Japan, offering enhanced convenience and flexibility to passengers.

Eliminating Transit Hurdles:

Previously, travelers departing from JFK seeking to reach Tokyo had limited options, often requiring connections through other cities or airlines such as All Nippon Airways (ANA) or Japan Airlines.

With the introduction of direct flights to Haneda, American Airlines eliminates these transit hurdles, providing a more straightforward and efficient travel experience for passengers.

Booking and Schedule Details:

Tickets for the new flights went on sale on Feb. 26, allowing travelers to secure seats for the upcoming service. Departing from JFK at 11:25 a.m., the flight to Haneda will arrive at 2:30 p.m. the following day.

The return journey from Haneda departs at 4:30 p.m. daily, reaching JFK at 4:35 p.m. on the same day. Despite the approximately 12-hour and 50-minute flight duration between the two airports, the international dateline ensures a seemingly instantaneous return to the U.S.

United Airlines’ Alternative Route:

While American Airlines’ new service targets travelers from JFK, United Airlines offers a direct route from Newark to Narita, Japan, providing an alternative option for passengers seeking transpacific flights.
