The animation company behind the reboot of the children’s TV serial The Clangers has gone into liquidation.

Factory Transmedia Ltd, a renowned animation production company based in Altrincham, Greater Manchester, has initiated a creditors’ voluntary arrangement.

The firm, known for its high-quality animations produced for prominent channels like Disney, Milkshake, Nick Jr, CBBC, and CBeebies, has faced challenging conditions in the global TV commissioning landscape.

A Legacy of Creative Excellence

Established in 2000, Factory Transmedia Ltd has earned acclaim for its innovative and diverse animation projects. Employing hundreds of talented individuals, the company has been instrumental in reviving beloved classics like “The Clangers,” originally created by Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin in 1969.

The CBeebies reboot of “The Clangers,” featuring renowned actor and presenter Michael Palin as the narrator, was a testament to Factory Transmedia’s creative prowess.

Liquidation and Market Challenges

Conrad Pearson and Patrick Lannagan from Mazars, an international audit, tax, and advisory firm, were appointed as joint liquidators of Factory Transmedia Ltd on April 2nd.

The decision to enter liquidation comes amid challenging market conditions, with a decline in the number of projects commissioned by broadcasters worldwide. These changes, driven by shifts in the global economy and audience behaviors, have significantly impacted the company’s financial viability.

Asset Disposal and Online Auction

In light of the liquidation, JPS Chartered Surveyors has been enlisted to facilitate the sale of Factory Transmedia Ltd’s assets through an online auction. Among the items up for auction are puppets used in the satirical sketch show “Newzoids,” which aired on ITV from 2015 to 2016, as well as various studio equipment.

Navigating Through Uncertainty

While the closure of Factory Transmedia Ltd marks the end of an era for the animation industry, it also underscores the challenges facing production companies in today’s rapidly evolving media landscape.

As stakeholders adapt to the changing dynamics of the market, the legacy of Factory Transmedia’s creative contributions will continue to inspire future generations of animators and storytellers.
