Russian President Vladimir Putin presented North Korean leader Kim Jong Un with a lavish Russian car, leaving no doubt about the generosity of the gift.
Delivery and Confirmation:
Pyongyang’s state media announced the delivery of a luxury limousine to top aides of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on Sunday.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov later confirmed the gift, identifying it as an Aurus, a full-sized luxury sedan similar to the one used by Russian President Vladimir Putin himself.
Close Relations:
North Korea and Russia have strengthened their ties, particularly since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Despite international sanctions, which both countries deny breaching, North Korea is believed to be supplying artillery, rockets, and ballistic missiles to Russia for the ongoing war effort.

Historic Meeting:
Last September, Putin welcomed Kim Jong-un to the Vostochny Cosmodrome in the Russian Far East, marking Kim’s first trip abroad in four years. During the visit, Kim inspected Putin’s Aurus Senat limousine and received gifts, including firearms.
Personal Relations:
Kim Jong-un’s sister, Yo Jong, emphasized the significance of the gift as a symbol of the close personal relationship between the leaders of North Korea and Russia.
However, South Korea’s Foreign Ministry expressed concern, stating that the gift may violate UN Security Council sanctions prohibiting the supply of luxury vehicles to North Korea.
Future Plans:
Both Russia and North Korea have hinted at a potential visit by Putin to Pyongyang in the near future, further indicating the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two nations.
As diplomatic relations continue to evolve, the exchange of luxury gifts underscores the complex dynamics between North Korea, Russia, and the international community amid ongoing geopolitical challenges.
